This weekend we got hit with some snow. It's only the second snowfall this season. Jordan and Kevin got all bundled up and braved the outdoors. I love when these two are able to spend some quality time together.

The other day I took the boys to Bounce U. We'd been cooped up for a couple days because of the cold, so it was a much needed activity out of the house. Jordan had a blast playing on all the equipment and Nathan and I enjoyed watching him. I did take Nathan down a couple slides - he cried at first but then tolerated it near the end.

New Developments for Nathan

Nathan has been officially crawling (up on all fours) for a few weeks now and has just recently started pulling himself up and taking steps along the couch or with his little push toy. He is seriously growing up way too fast! (also, Officer Jordan makes an appearance)

Haircuts

Yes, Nathan is only 9 months old and already needing an official haircut! I've tried a couple times to trim the top, but it grows back so fast that I needed a professional to tackle the job. Jordan set a great example for his little brother. They both sat very still and content. I was so proud of them both! (btw - Jordan didn't need his first haircut until he was 2!)

The last day that Taylor was up visiting, we went on a nice walk to our local park and let the boys play around for a little bit. Taylor is THE BEST uncle a boy could ask for! He truly understands how to interact with children. He can get the most quiet child to open up and laugh. He's a lot of fun! Love you Tay!

NYC

Jen and her boys and Taylor decided on a whim to come visit last weekend. I was so happy they did! We spent a day at Ikea with Rachel and her girls and a day in the Big Apple. We couldn't have picked a better day to visit the city. The weather reached the mid-50s with clear, sunny skies - aaahhh... heaven. Most the day was spent enjoying Hecksher playground in Central Park with Katie and her daughter Cami. After that we walked to the American Museum of Natural History for the boys to check out the dinosaur exhibits. We wrapped up the day with dinner at Patsy's (one of Jen's favorite pizza places) and chocolate cookies from Jacques Torres. Such a fun day!

Nathan's Favorite

It's no secret in our family that Nathan definitely has a favorite parent - his DAD! Is it horrible that this breaks my heart? I get to spend all day with him, playing with him, feeding him, changing his poopie diapers, and still, as soon as daddy comes home, he CLINGS to him. So not fair!

I guess I should appreciate that Nathan recognizes he has a great dad (because he sure does) and be grateful that he loves him so much.

Here's how obvious his affection is to all of us. Nathan started crying the other day and Jordan said, "I know why he's crying. He wants daddy. He really likes daddy."

We found a letter left by Elfie our elf on Christmas morning:

Dear Taylor family,

Thank you very much for letting me come visit you this month. I have really enjoyed watching Jordan and Nathan be good boys. Jordan is very good at sharing his toys with his friends and helping his dad with the dishes. He is a wonderful helper. Nathan is still learning many new skills like crawling and talking.

Each night I traveled to the North Pole to report to Santa. I told him that Jordan always put his bowl on the counter after breakfast and that he handed Nathan a toy or his binky when his mommy asked him to. He spoke very nicely to his mom and dad and was patient when his mommy asked him to be. I also told him that Nathan tries to be good just like his big brother. Santa said he would put Jordan and Nathan on the nice list and bring them each a gift under the tree.

As you can see, I am not here. I am out helping Santa deliver gifts for Christmas - it’s a big job! You won’t see me for a while because I will be working with the other elves in the North Pole to help Santa prepare for next Christmas. I will miss you very much. Remember to be nice and always listen to your parents, because I will be back next Christmas time to make sure you’re doing what’s right.

During Kevin's week off, we drove to Hershey to take the boys to the Chocolate World (and to scope out some townhomes). It really is such a magical place - we are so excited to move there in 6 months.

Christmas Day at the Kirkhams

We enjoyed such a nice relaxing Christmas day with the Kirkhams. Rachel and Suzanne spoiled us to a delicious dinner and great conversation. Kevin had to work the entire day, so it was just me and the boys. Thank you again Rachel for letting us intrude on this special holiday.

side note: Nathan was OBSESSED with Senate. This Great Dane didn't scare Nathan a bit. Nathan followed him around all day and wanted to touch him. It was the cutest thing!

Christmas for our family was a little bit different than we're used to. We spent Christmas with just our little family. In years past, we've been with my family or Kevin's family which consists of much larger groups. So Christmas was quiet, peaceful, intimate, but mostly, magical. I loved that I could enjoy each little (or big) squeal of excitement and joy out of my 4 year old as each gift was opened. I loved hanging out in my PJs ALL DAY LONG. I loved starting our new family Christmas traditions. And I loved doing whatever we wanted whenever we wanted.

They all sleep in his room and he calls them out in the morning when it's time to wake up. He shows them to me and has me hold and pet the hamster and bunny. It really is very sweet to see his imagination at work, but is this normal?

Favorite Freckle

When Nathan was born, I had a hard time recognizing any features from me or Kevin, so I always joked that the only reason I knew he was ours, is because when I saw him for the first time, I noticed this adorable freckle on his left cheek. Since day one I have loved to kiss that little freckle. It's in the most yummiest, pudgiest part of his chunky cheek... mmmmm.

I saw this sign just outside Jordan's preschool classroom. Oh, how he would LOVE to have a baby kitten for Christmas! Jordan always wants to play kittens with me. We crawl around on all fours "meowing" and drinking milk from a bowl on the floor. We take cat naps and play with balls like we have kitty paws. I wish I could make his dream come true! Maybe another Christmas WAAAAAY down the road.

Kind of a funny name for a post, but that was the theme of Jordan's preschool Christmas program and party. They sang songs about Jesus and presented baby Jesus with a gift. Jordan's gift was, "I will play the guitar for baby Jesus". so sweet. After the program, the children decorated cupcakes, filled "I spy Christmas" bottles, and "pin the star on the nativity". We had a great time.

Side note - I feel like we've really lucked out this year for preschool. Jordan has such a wonderful group of women as his teachers: Mrs. Trexler, Mrs. Vanhorn, and Mrs. Z. I don't know how these women have so much energy and patience. I can tell they truly enjoy teaching these cute kids and Jordan is LOVING school.

I Heart NYC

Last Monday, we tagged along with Rachel to visit the Big Apple. It was such a spontaneous trip that probably wouldn't have happened if we had more time to consider what we were doing - ha! I have to say, we had a BLAST! It was a bit cold and crowded, but NYC during the holidays is so gorgeous! The boys and I even enjoyed just admiring the buildings and the wonder of what is NYC. We visited Rockefeller Center to see the big Christmas tree and ice skating rink, and we went to FAO Schwartz and saw the live big piano performance (picture the movie "BIG"). We ate lunch from a local pizza joint, enjoyed cupcakes and hot chocolate from Magnolia, but the best meal was Thai take-out while sitting around the dinner table with some of the best ladies in the world, my amazing cousins!

Our last stop of the day was Emily's amazing condo on the upper west side. She lives up on the 42nd floor with fantastic views overlooking the Hudson river and NJ. We let the 9 kids (wow!) run around and play while we enjoyed catching up.

A big thank you to Rachel for making this happen and to Emily and Katie for making time to spend with us.

Ward Christmas Party

Last night, I took the boys to our ward's Christmas party. We ate such yummy dinner and desserts. They even had crafts for the kids - which, surprisingly, Jordan LOVED. He made a foam gingerbread house, a popsicle tree ornament, and a wreath ornament. so cute! But the highlight of the evening was sitting on Santa's lap. so magical!

Meet Elfie

We have started a new family Christmas tradition, "Elf on the Shelf". Elfie came to visit our family in the morning on Sunday, December 4. Jordan woke up and found him sitting in his little rocking chair reading "Goodnight Moon" with a couple of other books on the floor around him. He brought with him a book which explains his purpose in our home and Santa's rules. Elfie has come to observe Jordan and Nathan's behavior. Each night he returns to the North Pole to report to Santa whether they've been naughty or nice and then he is back before the children arise. He's always in a new location in the morning. The rules that Santa has set are that you can't touch Elfie or he may lose his magic and Elfie can't talk to us. He is here to listen and observe.

The other assignment was to give him a name. We left that up to Jordan. "Elfie" is what he chose. :)

At first, Jordan wasn't that into it. But now every morning when he spots Elfie, he gets really excited! I'm really enjoying this new tradition!

Annual Post-Thanksgiving Dinner at Suzanne's

Each year, my Aunt Suzanne invites the family over for dinner following Thanksgiving. She serves pizza and ice cream (who doesn't love that?!) down in her 50's style basement complete with a juke box - which of course we all dance to. She even gives each person an early Christmas gift. This always makes for a fun night! (Thank you Suzanne!)

Kevin just turned 31!! He celebrated his birthday by going to work at 5:30 in the AM - poor guy. After work we met up with the birthday boy at the hospital's holiday party where we had yummy dinner and then came home for cake and ice cream. Finally, as is tradition, we went around the table to tell Kevin why we love him. I love Kevin (among many other things) because he sacrifices so much (sleep, time, other interests and hobbies, etc.) to provide for our family. Jordan said he loves his daddy because he plays with him. Nathan said nothing, of course. Kev, we love you so much!!!

Deer Encounter

As Dayna and I were headed out one day, a deer dodged our car and dove through our neighbor's fence, but got STUCK! We felt so bad, so we called Taylor out to come help. He was able to bend the bars to free the deer. This distraught deer was making the weirdest noises.

Newseum in DC

One morning we visited the Newseum in DC with my parents and Dayna and her kids. It was so interesting! We saw a quick video answering, "What is News?". We saw remnants of the Berlin Wall. Immersed ourselves in recent news involving the FBI (for example: the Christmas shoe-bomber, Unabomber, Waco, 9/11 terrorists and more) very cool. I think what was most moving for me were the Pulitzer prize winning photographs through the years. Be warned, some pictures were very graphic and heart-wrenching, but well worth the visit.

Preschool Thanksgiving Program

I was such a proud parent watching Jordan perform during his Thanksgiving preschool program with his new friends. He remembered all his lines and spoke them clearly (well as clear as a 4-year-old can). I just can't believe how quickly this little guy is growing up.

Festival of Lights - Lighting Ceremony

On Dec 1, the DC temple held their annual lighting ceremony for the "Festival of Lights". We were some of the lucky ones invited to attend. Elder Gerard gave an inspirational message about becoming as little children because they will inherit the Kingdom of God. We also heard beautiful Christmas music from the Washington LDS choir.

On the Move

While we were home in MD, Nathan figured out how to be mobile (Vinny set a good example). They both army crawl which, in my opinion, is harder than just crawling, but it seems to work for them.

Our first night back in PA, Jordan was in the shower while I was trying to do a little unpacking. All of a sudden, I heard the cutest laugh coming from Nathie and I ran to the bathroom to see what was going on. Nathan had "crawled" from the family room to our bathroom and was hysterically laughing at his big brother stomping in the shower. too cute!

Fishing with Dad

While we were home in MD for the Thanksgiving holiday, Kevin snuck in some quality time with Jordie (and Ryan Blaney). They went fishing at a lake (more like a pond) in my parent's neighborhood. This lake is known for having a ton of bass. They caught this beauty together.

I am Thankful

This Thanksgiving I have a lot to be thankful for. Topping my list are my family, friends and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. If I had nothing else in my life, that would make for a pretty good life.

We spent this holiday in MD with my side of the family. Unfortunately, not everyone was able to come, but we had a large group nonetheless. Here are the happenings from this day of gratitude.

Started out with yummy french toast breakfast (sorry no pics), followed by a beautiful walk in the neighborhood, then a family turkey bowl, finally we finished the day off with the feast.

We signed Jordan up for a soccer class this Fall called SoccerTots. With all my weekend travels, he will have only made it to 4 out of 8 classes. oh well. He does great the times he's able to go. It's a cute class that focuses on learning basic foot skills. Maybe next year we'll get him in a league.

I feel like it's been FOREVER since our family has had some quality time with Kevin, so this outing to the park last Saturday was much needed. Jordan got to play soccer with his dad and Nathan got to snuggle him while I chased Jordan around the playground. Such a beautiful and fun afternoon!

First Haircut

I'm just dying over the fact that I had to cut Nathan's hair and he's less than a year old. I don't think Jordan needed a hair cut until he was almost 2.... haha, he was such a baldie. I tried my best to thin it out a little since the top was so thick compared to the rest of his hair, and I shortened the length (especially in front). I think I'm liking his new look.

Jayson Farewell & A Huge Surprise

I took the boys down to DC to spend time with my family last weekend. We went down to spend some time with Jayson before leaving for 2 years on his mission to Singapore. My dad flew all the siblings to town for the big occasion. Little did we know there was another reason for us all to be together. On Sunday, we were all sitting together anticipating Jayson's parting words, when to our surprise, the stake President, Ron Harrison, announced the release of our ward's bishopric and announced my dad as Bishop - what? huh? How could this be? How did we not know? I was totally shocked. Tears started falling down my face because I couldn't contain the love I have for my dad and my respect for him in accepting such a demanding call when he is already immersed in so much. I know he'll do great. And I know Jayson will do great on his mission!

Blue Rocks

While Uncle Robb was in town visiting, we decided to test out his subaru and took a drive into the Appalachian mountains. We started following a gravel road which opened up into such an amazing site of huge rocks and boulders in what seemed like a river bed. It is believed that they were formed during the Ice Age, but here's a ficitional story of how Blue Rocks was formed. (thanks for the pics robb!)

Our first snowfall here in Pennsylvania was beautiful and fun! It was an extra bonus that Robbie was here to enjoy it with us. But it did have its drawbacks - no power for 60 hours = freezing apartment and a family bed at night to stay warm.

Letter "L" Actions

For one of Jordan's homework assignments, he had to creatively fill a sheet with anything having to do with the letter "L". His previous assignment was for letter "A" and he just glued some pictures of animals that begin with "a" and then drew a couple of "a"s in marker and crayon. So I wanted to do something more interesting for "L". I came up with "L" Actions. We took pictures of Jordan doing each action and then let him cut them out and glue them on to the paper. He helped me label each picture. It was a lot of fun!

Happy Halloweenie

Halloween was a bit different this year - we enjoyed trick-or-treating, but we missed doing it with our dear friends, the Blaneys, and my parents and family. Savidge Farms

Jordan's preschool class took a field trip to Savidge Farms to pick pumpkins. It was so fun to join him on this adventure and to meet some of his friends. I loved watching him interact with his little buddies. We got to take a hayride, play on a tractor with a slide, play in a cornbox (similar to a sandbox), jump on hay bales and check out some animals (including emus). Such a fun and beautiful morning!

Rochester, NY (me & 4 boys)

My boys and I had the privilege of going to Rochester to spend 5 days with a couple of my favorite nephews, Daniel & Jamesie. Jen and Bryson had a getaway to an island just off Florida's coast, and I was left home as the only female among 4 fun little boys. It wasn't always laughs and giggles, but overall we had a great time. We spent a day at the Children's museum and a morning at the Sandbox and many hours were put into playing in their amazing basement. By the end, I was definitely exhausted and happy to return home, but I do miss those sweet boys like crazy. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

The boys and I had such a fun weekend enjoying the beauty at Deep Creek Lake with my parents (and Adam & Elyse). We were there for what they call 'Autumn Glory'. I think we missed the peak of the Fall colors by a week, but it was beautiful nonetheless.

Car Show in downtown Oakland

Jordan thought the yellow car looked like Bumblebee from Transformers. I was happy to pose next to a Chevy Malibu (Kev, we should hold onto our Malibu, because it could be considered a collectible some day... haha) My mom loved the green car. Jordan was so funny at the car show, anytime he saw a car with a horse on the front grill, he would say, "look! it's a Mustang!" and he was right too.

Adventure Aquarium in Camden

Simply put, Adventure Aquarium is Awesome! We met up with Rachel and her girls in New Jersey to check out this little gem. It's the perfect size for kids (not too big, not too small) and has so many hands-on stations. We got to pet sharks and stingrays and even see a seal show. We saw one of the largest alligators in the country - Mighty Mike. We saw hippos, a sea turtle, tons of sharks, jellyfish, huge crabs (which Jordan thinks looks like spiders), lobsters, penguins, and lots of fish. Jordan even got to be a helper during the seal show. It was such a fun afternoon. A special thank you to Rachel for planning and for the pics.

Father/Son Bonding

Kevin had the day off on Monday so he decided to take Jordan for a little father/son bonding. What did they do? GOLF (of course). Well, miniature golf to be exact. They had a blast!! Jordan soaks up any precious time he can have with his dad and I melt over the way they interact. They have such a sweet relationship.

Make-Believe at the Park

The other day, Kevin and I took the boys to our local park, Lone Lane Park. It was memorable because it was such a gorgeous afternoon, but mostly for the make-believe we participated in with Jordan. There is a portion of the playground designed as a ship. Jordan told us to get on the ship because it was going. I asked, "Where is it going?" and he replied, "to the promised land." Kevin and I couldn't help from laughing - too cute! Later on, he said, "come on captains!" and I said, "ahoy matey." He then said, "we're not pirates." I said, "who are we?" and he replied, "We are Nephites!". hahahaha - too funny! I'm so happy he's getting something out of our scripture reading!

Pulpit Rock

On Saturday morning, the boys and I joined some ward members for a hike to Pulpit Rock. It was a beautiful hike with a gorgeous view at the top. I enjoyed watching Jordan play with his friend Dallin and lead the group much of the way. Nathan was a dream in his pack on my back. He was happy or napping the entire time - what a trooper! Kevin had to work... boo. But we had such a great time!

Over this past week, Nathan has been practicing his new skill of sitting up. He LOVES sitting up. It gives him a whole new perspective on his surroundings. I sure love this growing boy!

The Book of Mormon is True!

I want to shout it out! The Book of Mormon is true! And we are blessed enough to be living during this time on Earth to have the fulness of the gospel through another testament of Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon. I just enjoyed an uplifting weekend full of inspired messages from our church leaders and Prophet for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. You can listen to them here.

Many messages focused on the truthfulness and power of the Book of Mormon. I believe that this book is true. By trying to live the principles and guidance provided in its words, I find great happiness in my life. If you want to know more about God and Jesus Christ, I strongly encourage you to read this book. As George Q. Cannon once said “no wicked man could write such a book as this; and no good man would write it, unless it were true and he were commanded of God to do so.” Take a chance! You could find so much more meaning and joy in this life!

Jordan is growing up so fast! He is becoming so inquisitive. He has a question for everything, about how things work and life in general. He loves to analyze new ideas. And he's also developing such a wonderful sense of humor. I have loved this boy since day one, but my love for him grows more each day. I'm such a lucky mom!

I'm realizing now how much I relied on that fine piece of machinery. I had notes and reminders on there that I can't get back. Luckily my calendar events and contacts are all saved. Looks like I'll have to get a go-phone linked to my plan for the time being. grrrrrrr....

Rodale Park

Rodale park is just a couple minutes from our home and we love it! It has a beautiful walking/biking trail and a huge sand pit with trucks. Nathan enjoyed time on the blanket with Sophie while Jordan enjoyed playing with the trucks.*Nathan has a love/hate relationship with his Sophie the giraffe. He's happy for the first couple minutes with it and then turns really angry - I think because he wants so badly to shove the whole thing in his mouth, but he can't...

Lauren & Chris Wedding

We were privileged to fly to Utah for my little sister's wedding. Lauren was wed to Chris Guinn on Saturday, September 17 and it was a day we will always remember. The weather was perfect and details astonishing! Congratulations Lauren and Chris!!We were oh so pampered before the big day: First a delicious brunch at Dear Lizzy in Alpine followed by mani/pedis. Then we got our hair done at a salon in slc. So fun!I love the colors Lauren chose. Purple is so feminine yet sophisticated. Dayna was the wedding planner for this incredible event and she rocked it! Everything was perfect!Here's a video of some of the events from the day. I wish I had taken video of some of the big events like Lauren and Chris first dance and so forth... but I'm sure the videographer did. I can't wait to check out what he puts together!

I was just in the kitchen doing dishes when Jordan walked in pretending to be on the phone with his dad. I looked at him, and he said, "one sec" while holding up his pointer finger. My little Jordie is approaching his last year before Kindergarten so I felt like it was about time to upgrade him from his crib/toddler bed to a full-size twin with a bigger dresser (plus I felt horrible that Nathan was still sleeping in a port-a-crib). I came across a steal of a deal on craigslist and couldn't pass it by. $75 for mattress, box spring, bed, dresser and book shelf - not bad.
